SPACE AND AERONAUTICS

One of the essential requirements in designing aerospace systems is to guarantee high system reliability; ie, a low failure probability. In the case of space systems, it is enforced by the practical impossibility of repairs in orbit. For its part, in aviation it is enforced by the stringent safety requirements imposed.

Simulation of these systems constitutes, more and more, an important stage of the design phases. In the preliminary phases the model enables us to evaluate the performances of different alternatives, and in the last phases to predict results, fine-tune the design parameters and verify the design in the different operating modes, thus increasing reliability.

EcosimPro has a large number of libraries which enable us to simulate different systems related to aeronautical and space engineering; for example, propulsion systems — both jet engines and rocket engines, life support systems, thermal analysis, etc.

In these and many more cases, the multidisciplinary capacity of a simulation tool like EcosimPro is essential.

Libraries

ECLSS, Environmental Control and Life Support Systems

ECLSS is an EcosimPro professional library which provides a set of components to simulate the most typical process units, equipment and processes of the ECLS systems, such as cabins, crews, heat exchangers, pipes, pumps, reactors, electrolysers, etc.

EcosimPro is the standard tool of the European Space Agency (ESA) used in ECLSS analyses.

ESPSS, European Space Propulsion System Simulation

ESPSS is a set of libraries which provides components and functions for the simulation of spacecraft and launch vehicle propulsion systems. In adition to the typical elements of these systems, such as nozzles, tanks or combustion chambers, it provides a standard database for propellants, pressurants and other fluids for simulation.

PROPSAT

The purpose of the PROPSAT library is to simulate hydraulic transients in liquid rocket engines. Some of the phenomena that can be simulated are valve waterhammer, pipe filling waterhammer, transient conditions caused by changes in the rotation speed of the turbopumps, etc.

TURBO

The purpose of this library is to provide a wide range of detailed elements to represent any aircraft engine, such as compressors, turbines, nozzles, combustion chambers, etc.
